The GIMP – and other paint programs

January 22, 2008

GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program)  is software that you can download for free. It’s like Microsoft Paint. However, unlike MSPaint, GIMP can be a very difficult program to learn and master. Why? GIMP has more features then paint, as well as more tools, and lighting effects that paint doesn’t have. Some may say GIMP rivals that of Adobe Photoshop. Unlike GIMP, Photoshop is not free. It’s around $400 dollers. It’s probably complex as well. But, just because GIMP is difficult, doesn’t mean it’s not worth a try. If you can learn GIMP, even just a few of it’s many features, you can make some incredibly artwork – all it takes it practice and patience (Skill may play a role in it as well). You can also use GIMP for graphics in games and websites.

If you would like to download GIMP, then click here.

Now, GIMP isn’t for everyone. Here’s two more programs (Both have trial versions):
GraphicsGale
ProMotion
I’ve heard good things about GraphicsGale, but I have never used it. As for ProMotion, I’ve never heard of it. There’s also other paint programs that are out there. Such as Paint.net.

Now, before I close the blog, I’ll show something I made in GIMP.

I used one of GIMP’s lighting effects Supernova to make the background look like it’s shining. I think it looks neat. :)
